Welcome to St John the Evangelist, Tipton | ![]() |
(Updated 4th February 2012) Welcome to the website of Saint John's Church Tipton, the church with the Norman tower at the heart of a nineteen sixties housing estate! The church with Princes End at its heart! For 700 years there has been a church on this site drawing people to worship Almighty God, to know Him through His Son Jesus Christ and to receive His grace through the holy Sacraments. Through its active Youth Club (SJYC) and Pensioners Club, its involvement with the local school and residential Home, St John's seeks to serve the local community. St John's worship centres on the offering of the Mass day by day and is in accordance with the Catholic tradition of the Church of England. We are in the pastoral care of Jonathan, Bishop of Ebbsfleet.

Nothing more clearly displays who we are as Christians as does the celebration of the Mass. This is the service that Christ commanded us to do. St.Paul describes the institution of the Mass: “On the same night that he was betrayed, the Lord Jesus took some bread, and thanked God for it and broke it, and he said, ‘This is my body, which is for you; do this as a memorial of me’.” [1 Cor 11:23] The Mass is at the very heart and centre of our beliefs and practices as Christians. The celebration of each Mass teaches us to understand ever more fully the precious gift of His Body and Blood that is ours in this mystery. The words of scripture reminds us of true Christian teaching and the reception of the Blessed Sacrament of the Body and Blood of Christ strengthens us to put that teaching into practice. It remains the very centre of the Church's life. Taking, blessing, breaking and sharing bread is the fourfold action of the Priest at Mass, as he repeats the actual words of Christ. When we miss Mass we are breaking our union with Christ. We miss the words of the scriptures to encourage and support our faith. We miss out on the strength of the Blessed Sacrament and the grace that God gives us by receiving His Sacred Body and Precious Blood.
