Broughton, Marton and Thornton
A FORWARD IN FAITH PARISH
Our main website has moved.

There is still some useful archive material here on the other pages; and some longer texts for reference.
All Saints’, Broughton, stands between the two hamlets of Broughton-in-Airedale and Elslack, and serves them both.
St Peter’s, Marton, hidden away in East Marton (formerly called Church Marton) serves that hamlet and West Marton, under the old-fashioned name of Martons Both.
St Mary the Virgin, Thornton-in-Craven, may (according to older church records) have once been dedicated to St Oswald, martyr and first Christian king of the English.
What’s on the other pages?
The three churches are separately described,
followed by the Holy Well;
Healing Ministry carries on some of the material already covered under the holy well, but also the wider ministry of healing in the parish, especially at Broughton, and the ministry of deliverance;
Weddings and More – with a married clergy couple in the parish, it is not surprisingly perhaps if this is an important part of our ministry, and very often couples come from quite a distance to be married in one of our country churches;
Latin Mass – on a regular basis, Fr Nicholas celebrates the Mass in Latin: if you thought all that ended at the Reformation, then you might want to read some more;
Vocations – Canon Ann is the Diocesan Director of Ordinands, and here shares some of her work encouraging and testing vocations (and not just to the priesthood);
Parish Activity – bell ringing; Mothers’ Union; pilgrimages;
Gallery - This page is in a different form to the others, in order to collect a whole range of photos, collected in various albums. Click on the album to open it; click on each photo to enlarge it. Some browsers insist on showing you advertisements at the side; others browsers (e.g. Safari) cut them out - good for them.
Prayer & Worship - You will find material for healing services under both Holy Well and Healing Ministry. Other material is being collected here.
Inheritance – two families made a particular mark on our parish in the past: the Richardsons at Thornton in the C18th and the Hebers at Marton in the early C19th, and they deserve to be remembered;
More History is what it says on the tin;
‘The Round’ – since we produce a free monthly newsletter that is distributed to every household in the parish, it makes sense to reproduce it here, for it will carry news of non-church items, as well as the monthly service times, and other belongings;
Further Afield – this is mainly about Forward in Faith, the work of Bishop Martyn of Beverley, and other national organizations we are involved with, and then some links to other websites;
& Finally – we wanted somewhere to put the odds and ends that don’t quite fit elsewhere; some should be interesting, others informative, and maybe even funny.
