B.M.T. - Directions to our three churches; of All Saints, Broughton; St Peter, East Marton; St Mary the Virgin, Thornton-in-Craven; and to the new Rectory. (The holy well is by St Mary's.)

ALL SAINTS’ CHURCH From Skipton on the A59. You enter the village of BROUGHTON, with a sign to Gargrave on the right, and THE BULL pub to your left. Take the next turning left (unsigned, and looking a little like a lay-by), cross the bridge, ignore the imposing gates ahead of you, but keep right up the hill. It is a single-track road, so be careful of traffic coming down faster than it ought. Ignore the sign to the left, for Offices and Utopia, keep on the road up the hill, over the rise and through the trees you will see the small church and what used to be its rectory, stables and barn around it. From Clitheroe or Colne on the A59. Start concentrating when you pass the roundabout, where the A56 joins the A59. Pass a row of cottages on your left called Sulphur Wells, and a turning to the right. Then take the next turn right, which should be signposted ALL SAINTS CHURCH. Down, cross the bridge, and then as above…

ST PETER’S CHURCH From Skipton on the A59. You enter the village of EAST MARTON, cross the canal, pass THE CROSS KEYS pub on your right. At the top of the hill, turn left down CHURCH LANE, and continue to the bottom, turning left into the church car park. From Clitheroe on the A59. Go through WEST MARTON village, a quarter of a mile later you see the sign for EAST MARTON at the top of a rise as the road turns to the right. It is the next turn right, down CHURCH LANE, and then continue to the bottom.

ST MARY’S CHURCH On the A56, from either Colne or Skipton. At the top of the hill, as you are going through the village of Thornton-in-Craven, there is a turning to BARNOLDSWICK, the B6252, called CHURCH ROAD. As you pass the houses and come to the end of the speed restrictions, turn right into the lay-by, which is the parking for the church. Coming out of Barnoldswick on the B6252 in the direction of Skipton, you will pass the Rolls-Royce works, then a road to the left for West Marton, and as the road rises and turns to the left as you enter Thornton village, the church and its parking is on your left.

THE NEW RECTORY As you enter the village of West Marton, take the turning towards HELLIFIELD and BANK NEWTON. This is Gledstone Road, though of course this is not indicated. The new housing development is called DAIRY MEADOW, on the left after 150 yards. Go straight ahead (i.e. not round to the right) to the house at the end stuck on a pile of rocks (it has a single round window in the wall which faces you). Expect heavy building traffic around and about.
